How to properly Install Bearings you ask, Follow this :Required before you start is 1 can of stp carburetor cleaner, clean cloth rag, Five gal bucket of Hot soapy water. When bearings are manufactured they are sprayed down with a preservative for boxing and shelf life use, when we purchase bearings they are in need of installation Preparation that requires Common sense practices, First I will show you what you need to remove and why, pick up 1 half the bearing, spray the bearing surface with carb cleaner then wipe hard with rag, this only takes about 10 swipes over surface and then look at your rag, this is what builds up between the bearing and the bearing surface causing Bearing Failure, after it is polished clean drop in bucket and wash, rinse with clean water and BLOW DRY! do not wipe with anything you own. Use Crower assay Lube or what you prefer as an Assembly Lube. When you here of a engine builder who just assay there Engine only to throw rods out with bad oil pressure are sure to have forgoten to PREP the Bearings correctly.....Your Brother ...Beastmaster.     PS: TRICK OF TRADE....The Darker The Bearing the more Hardner was used.(Example look at stock bearing next to H Bearing)...BUY DARK!

I'll concider this proceedure next time I assemble an engine. I've always "polished" the bearings by removing the coating with 3M fine teflon pad (white) and light oil. Use of the proceedure also depends on the bearing manufacturer. 

During assembly, I'm more concerned with the nominal thickness of the bearings and attaining proper clearances. Some manufacturers have terrible quality control. I've dismissed complete bearing sets because I couldn't get proper fit (clearance).
The higher the performance,  the more I check. I check the rod ends to make sure they haven't stressed. A lot of builders just throw in new bearings and don't check that the rod end hasn't distorted. New rod bolts are a requirement on an engine that will turn in excess of 5500 rpm.
